An In-home Daycare is a very profitable business--especially if you own your own home! Not many people know that running a business out of your home (especially a home daycare) truly helps out at tax time! Let's talk about business expenses & tax deductions......

Business expenses:

Toys- If you buy toys and use them in your daycare, they are now a business expense-you write them off!

Cleaning Supplies- Buy cleaners to clean up after the daycare children-write them off!

Vehicle- Do you make payments on a vehicle which you use to transport the daycare children to the park or school--write it off! (You can write off the gas & mileage as well)

Dishes- Did you buy new dishes or pots and pans so you could cook for the daycare children and serve them--write them off!

See where I am going with this? Virtually ANYTHING you use for your daycare can be written off at TAX time either in part or whole. They are business expenses. Items used exclusively for your daycare are written off 100%. Items used in part by your daycare are written off by a percentage. My daycare accounting forms will calculate this percentage for you. No need to worry! (more information on my Daycare Business Accounting Forms can be found here.)

These are just a portion of the items you can write off at tax time. Other items include everyday household bills like a portion of your heating bill, water bill, phone bill cable bill, internet bill...... the list goes on and on. All you have to to is SAVE YOU RECEIPTS and use my Daycare Business Accounting Forms to keep track of your income and expenses. Daycare Forms- Accounting Forms Sold Seperately?

I like the idea of home daycare business accounting forms, very helpful at tax time. Do you sell those separately?

Thanks for your services,

RSM

My Accounting Forms are a necessity of every Home Daycare Provider. They are self explanatory and easy to use. You can keep track of every child’s account separately all on one sheet. Additionally you have access to my email so that you can get in contact with me if you have any questions. I will respond within 24 hours (usually sooner).

The 2010 Daycare Business Accounting forms are sold usually separately for $29.95; however as a special for the rest of 2010 I am giving them away for FREE to every customer who buys my #1 Daycare Forms for $19.95.

Potty Training Concerns

I received an email from a child care provider who is just starting up and purchased my Daycare Forms CD. She states:

"I am having difficulty with potty training daycare children. It's not the children that are the problem--It's their parents! After 2 weeks of "potty time" every 45 minutes and countless stickers as rewards, a 2 year old girl was finally wearing big girl underwear and making it to the toilet every time. I was so proud of her accomplishment. This went on for 3 solid weeks with no accidents. However, the family took a week long vacation and when the child returned to me, she was back in diapers. Her parents stated that she had accidents every day and refused to try. Now when I say "potty time" the child refuses to try and the parents are no longer potty training at home. Please help!" --Susanne
PS. Your Daycare Forms really helped me a lot!

Hello Susanne,

Thank your for purchasing my Daycare Forms CD. I am glad they have helped you!

Potty training is difficult at times and can be an unfavorable chore. Congratulations on helping your 2 year old daycare child accomplish such a wonderful task! I understand that it is frustrating when a child has made such a great accomplishment and they revert back to diapers. Although it is upsetting to see a lack of parental involvement, I am glad you haven't given up. Until the parents get back on the potty training wagon, all you can do I use a great amount of encouragement to the child. Try reminding her about what a big girl she was without diapers. And when she finally does make it to the potty again, give her plenty of praise. It will also help if you praise the parents. Tell them about the child using the potty again and say "I can tell you began working with her a home again, I am so proud of her." Even though the parents may not be working with the child at home, this may help them begin again.

Take Care and please email again with an update!

Daycare Forms - Hubby Hurdle

Hi there!

Thank you so much for all the valuable daycare forms to help me start my home daycare! I LOVE the menu planners! Anyway I wanted to first introduce myself and then ask a question or two. I am married 13.5 years to a Navy man, he's a lifer and we only have 5 more years left! I don't know what I will do in civilian life! Well we do NOT live on post we live off post. I have a little girl who will be 3 next month and I'm 8 months pregnant now with a boy. I had been working from home for a company doing computer work for the last 4 years until I was laid off 3 weeks ago. I LOVE babies and young kids (mostly my daughter's age) and when doing the math on finding an out of the home job versus paying full time daycare it seems to make more sense to watch other kids out of my home, I'd make the same money either way!

Anyway, I do have ONE hurdle stopping me. The hubby. He usually leaves the house between 6 am or 7 am depending on if he is taking the train into work (we live north of Chicago). He doesn't get home until 5:30 or 6:30 pm or even later most days. I was planning on setting my daycare hours 7:30 am to 5 pm (typical in this area of home daycares) so that he won't have people driving up as he's leaving or getting home etc. But when I mentioned home daycare to him he said, its going to be a nut house and I don't want to come home to a house full of babies. I'm just wondering if you have any perspectives from the spouses of women who run daycares out of their homes so he can get a sense that its not going to ruin his life. I mean, he'll be at work when they arrive and they'll be gone before he leaves. I'm not sure what his issue is (maybe thinking the house will be a mess or something). Any help from the husband side would be helpful if you had any testimonies to pass on!

Thanks again!

Best Wishes,

D.

RESPONSE

D.,

Thank you for purchasing my #1 Daycare Forms CD and FREE 2010 Business Accounting Forms. I am glad you like the menu planner. They make meal planning very simple; especially since they give you 5 weeks worth of meals and snacks already planned out!

I am a military spouse with 4 daughters. I have been running a daycare out of my home for over ten years. Getting over the “Hubby Hurdle” is difficult, but not impossible. Here is how most spouses get over that hurdle. Explain the benefits:

1.)have your husband read my the information on my website: #1 Daycare Forms

2.)Make sure he fully grasps how beneficial this line of work will be for your family AND the pocket book----You are not paying someone to watch your kids. You get to raise your own children and contribute to the income. You are not spending money on gas to drive to work. You are not spending money on buying lunch…… Here’s the best part---You know those routine bills (cable, telephone, water, electric, internet…etc.)? Well, since you run a business out of your home you get to deduct a portion of those bills from your income! You can deduct your mortgage interest if you own the home or your rent if you are renting. You can buy your children toys and just let the daycare kids touch it ONE TIME and it is now a business expense. Here is what you deduct:
Say you bring in $3,000 a month. Now subtract about 30% of the following from your $3,000/month income:
Cable, internet, telephone, electric, rent, car payment, gas (because you do need to drive to the store and buy daycare supplies), cleaning supplies, toys, and anything else you bought which helps you run your daycare. After every single one of those bills are deducted you could almost cut your income in ½. Now you don’t really cut your income in ½ because those are bills that you have to pay whether or not you run a daycare out of your home, but come tax time the savings are outrageous! You can make $45,000 in one year, but since you have so many deductions when you file your taxes it show that you only made $20,000. WOW! If you had a job outside of your home and you made $45,000 you’d get taxed on $45,000 and you could not write off portions of your everyday expenses.

3.)As for the jam up at the front door as the hubby is leaving and returning from work……..It seems like you already have that worked out. However, if the times overlap by just a few minutes or so I would suggest you remind your husband about all of the money you are bringing in; how much you enjoy being able to stay home and raise your kids. And let him know how thankful you are that you have such a Kind, Caring & Supportive Husband.

Good luck starting your home daycare. Please feel free to email at anytime!

Respectfully,

Daycare Help
