An In-home Daycare is a very profitable business--especially if you own your own home! Not many people know that running a business out of your home (especially a home daycare) truly helps out at tax time! Let's talk about business expenses & tax deductions......

Business expenses:

Toys- If you buy toys and use them in your daycare, they are now a business expense-you write them off!

Cleaning Supplies- Buy cleaners to clean up after the daycare children-write them off!

Vehicle- Do you make payments on a vehicle which you use to transport the daycare children to the park or school--write it off! (You can write off the gas & mileage as well)

Dishes- Did you buy new dishes or pots and pans so you could cook for the daycare children and serve them--write them off!

See where I am going with this? Virtually ANYTHING you use for your daycare can be written off at TAX time either in part or whole. They are business expenses. Items used exclusively for your daycare are written off 100%. Items used in part by your daycare are written off by a percentage. My daycare accounting forms will calculate this percentage for you. No need to worry! (more information on my Daycare Business Accounting Forms can be found here.)

These are just a portion of the items you can write off at tax time. Other items include everyday household bills like a portion of your heating bill, water bill, phone bill cable bill, internet bill...... the list goes on and on. All you have to to is SAVE YOU RECEIPTS and use my Daycare Business Accounting Forms to keep track of your income and expenses. And for only $19.95 for my #1 Daycare Forms you will be able to keep track of your Daycare Business Accounts and be on your way to starting your own child care business from home!!

Daycare Forms Set up Question

Here is another question we received from a child care provider who just bought our Daycare Forms CD. She is in the process of setting up an area in her home for her Daycare Business.

I just got the Daycare Forms CD in the mail! I am so excited. Your forms were easy to understand and truly worth every penny. Thank you. You said that I would receive personal contact information to help me answer any other questions and I received a phone number and your email address. Thank you for that too!
Here is my question: I have an area in my home that I would like to use for my daycare, but I don't know how to really set it up. Do I need toy boxes loaded with toys and books shelves? What are the main things I need to have?

Thank you!

Shelly G.

Hello Shelly,

Thank you for purchasing the Daycare Forms CD. I am glad you found our Daycare Forms to be so easy to use.

Setting up a Daycare in your home is easier than you might think. The basics are: a small table and chairs, a comfortable area (a couch or a bunch of pillows), 2 shelves and easy to clean toys. We do not suggest using toy boxes for Daycare toys for two reasons 1) it is difficult for the children to see what is available to play with and 2) the lid on the toy box could injure a child. We suggest setting up at least 2 shelves and putting the toys in baskets. Each basket should have matching toys in it. For example one basket would have cars in it,, another basket might have the Mr. Potato head items in it and another basket would have books in it. Try to put these shelves on opposite sides of the room and place a carpet in the middle.

You'll need easy to clean toys so that they can be washed after play and after a child puts them in their mouths. Please see the posting below you places to look for toys and other items you need to set up your daycare. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Good luck and thanks again for purchasing our Daycare Forms CD!

Sincerely,

Daycare Help
